is there a difference between hemp oil and cbd oil

Hemp Oil vs. CBD Oil: Is there a difference?

This is a common, age old question as people try to understand the plant-derived supplement that is CBD Oil. CBD oil and hemp oil are actually the same thing. They are both made using the whole hemp plant and contain a range of cannabinoids depending on the choice of extraction process to remove phytocannabinoids from the plant.

The confusion lies really in the difference between CBD oil and Hemp Seed oil. Now, these are two completely different oils. One, contains a range of hemp cannabinoids which are used to create CBD oils and other CBD products while the other is an Omega-rich oil taken from the seeds of the hemp plant. Hemp seed oil contains no cannabinoids – CBD, CBG, CBN, THC – none of them.

However it is used as a carrier oil in CBD oil tinctures to house the percentage of CBD content in the product. The hemp extract containing CBD cannabinoids needs to be held in an oil-like substance in order for user’s to be able to drop the supplement under the tongue and allow for absorption.

What is Hemp Seed Oil?

Hemp seed oil and CBD oil are two popular terms that are often used interchangeably, but they are actually quite different. Hemp seed oil is made from the seeds of the hemp plant and is rich in nutrients like omega3 and omega6 fatty acids, protein, and vitamin E. It is often used as the carrier oil in CBD tinctures and beauty products.

Oil made from only the seeds of the hemp plant is nutritious and a popular addition to many people’s diets on its own. You can purchase hemp seed oil for a very affordable price as it is not as complex as hemp oil, better known as CBD oil.

What is Cannabidiol in Comparison?

CBD oil also known as hemp oil is made from the flowers, leaves, and stalks of the hemp plant and contains high levels of CBD.

It is used by people for a wide variety of reasons such as for anxiety, pain, inflammation or even sleep regulation but there is not not enough research done to qualify CBD as anything more than a food or dietary supplements.

What can Hemp Products Help with?

Brands and companies specialising in the sale of Cannabidiol and hemp products cannot attach any medical or health claims to the use of their products. They cannot give customers medical advice either.

The best option for potential users of CBD is to research online and look at a host of small-scale research study results plus a wealth of anecdotal evidence and testimonials from CBD users on our review platforms.

How Do I Tell the Difference Between the Two?

As mentioned earlier, hemp oil or CBD oil contains cannabinoids found in the stalks, leaves and other parts of the hemp plant. A product containing CBD and/ or other cannabinoids should state the % content or CBD in mg to clarify the amount it contains. CBD oils are much more expensive than hemp seed oil as their value to the body is categorised as much greater.

Don’t worry if your CBD product states ‘hemp seed oil’ in the ingredients list. Once there is also ‘hemp extract’ stated in the ingredients then you know you are getting a legitimate CBD product! If the ingredients list solely states ‘hemp seed oil’ then this product does not contain CBD cannabinoids but just the nutritious oil which comes from the seeds of the plant.

Hemp oil is made by cold pressing the seeds of the hemp plant, while CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant and then adding it to a carrier oil (often hemp seed). Thankfully a typical, classic CBD oil tincture gives a user the plant power of hemp extract plus the healthy, Omega-rich benefits of hemp seed oil combined in one supplement.

Is Hemp Legal in Malta as a Supplement?

Yes! Hemp-derived products are legal in Malta to buy and sell as food supplements or as cosmetics. The hemp plant is the non-psychoactive, non-toxic member of the Cannabis plant family.

It is a close relative of marijuana but instead of containing high amounts of THC cannabinoids, hemp boasts high amounts of CBD cannabinoids and natural trace levels of THC. This makes it both legal, safe and popular to buy and use daily as a dietary addition.

CBD for People vs. Animals

People and animals can supplement with CBD oil for various reasons. Most CBD brands like us here at Dr. Hemp Me, specially create a product for pets such as cats, dogs or even horses which has some differences to human CBD oil products.

Firstly products for animals are generally of a lower concentration of CBD as they are often smaller than humans, with the exception of horses! Secondly, animals may find the natural flavour and scent of hemp oil too strong to handle. In this case we add salmon oil as the carrier product instead of hemp seed oil to mask the natural smell and taste of the hemp extract for pets.
